Anycast routing (rolling out)
Our global anycast network is rolling out: BGP routing will direct each query to the nearest available nameserver to cut response times worldwide — with no configuration on your end. Today your zones are served from our managed resolver.
GeoDNS (rolling out)
Geographic answer steering is rolling out: return different DNS responses based on the resolver’s location — North American visitors to your US infrastructure, European visitors to Frankfurt, Asia-Pacific to Singapore — all from a single DNS zone. It needs query-time location data and ships with the anycast network.
Health checks & failover
Attach health checks to any A or AAAA record. When a check fails, Airfree automatically removes the unhealthy target from responses and reinstates it once the endpoint recovers — automatic failover without a load balancer.
Secondary DNS
Run Airfree as a secondary nameserver for a zone whose primary is hosted elsewhere: Airfree transfers the zone in from your primary via AXFR and keeps it in sync on SOA change. Available on Advanced DNS zones.
ALIAS / ANAME records
Point your zone apex (e.g. example.com — no www) to a hostname like a CDN or load balancer. ALIAS records behave like CNAME but resolve at the nameserver so they work at the root of your zone where CNAME is prohibited by RFC.
TTL management
Set TTL as low as 60 seconds per record. Before planned changes — a server migration, a new CDN rollout — lower your TTL in advance so DNS changes propagate worldwide within minutes rather than hours.
